I think if you all will read carefully, you will see that the article lists these places as sources for solar bird baths and heaters, which all of them do carry.

There is a solar bird bath heater called the [ Solar Sipper], which is actually an entire drinking station that is solar powered. I will add it to the article so there is less confusion. Solar heaters can be found, they are just difficult to find. The reason is that creating a continual source of heat for a bird bath via solar would be a very expensive accessory--something most people won't pay for. However, if your climate isn't too harsh, a simple solar powered fountain will keep the water moving so it doesn't freeze.

Kathleen, those are not SOLAR de-icers on backyardbird.com. Those are ELECTRIC. This article is supposed to be about SOLAR BIRD BATH HEATERS. There is no such thing on the market.

Why is someone who doesn't know the bird bath market writing an article on bird baths? It seems like a crucial expertise. If there are no solar-powered bird bath heater inserts available, then this article is worse than useless.

Could any one PLEASE tell me where they found one, I have looked everywhere and have not found an actual bird bath heater/de-icer that runs off solar power. Thanks.

Hi Everyone, First please don't beat up on Kathleen; these articles are written for info only and as we all know, links change rapidly in the .com world.

The following links (checked December, 2008) are for solar bird baths- not separate heaters. Prices vary, but there is a wide variety of these solar bird bath models on the market.

I have not been able to find a solar heater eithher; only the electric.

I would love to find a solar powered birdbath heater. Where can one be found? None of these links sell one. Thank you.

Sue and Christy, No, there is no existing solar powered heated bird bath or heater for bird baths at this time. Kathleen Roberts has tried to answers your questions, but frankly she does not know the bird feeding or bird bath market. The Solar Sipper Heated Bird Bath is an extremly poor design and should be taken off the market. Birds are fearful of preditors and putting a bird bath on the ground decreases desire to use it.

The image at the top is of a frozen bird bath, not a solar heater.

Birdbaths.com does show a small solar heated bird bath called the Solar Sipper Heated Bird Bath.

Silicon Solar primarily has solar powered bird bath fountains (among other things) but what you need to realize is that if the water is moving, as in a fountain, it is not likely to freeze. So this is a help to birds in the winter as well.

Backyard Bird actually has several solar heated bird baths near the bottom of the page. When I counted, there were six listed, one of which was just a heater that can be used on your current bird bath. It is listed as a bird bath de-icer and is at the very bottom of the page.

So the links do provide sources, however the image above is an example of why you would want to heat your bird bath.

Yes, but WHERE can I actually GET a solar bird bath heater... none of your links have one, and the picture does not link me to the source... very unhelpful.
