Terena,

It is very possible that this mantis is getting ready to die. They typically lay an egg sack just before winter and then die. The egg sack will hatch in the spring.

Terena,

As the article states, they eat insects in your yard. They can be effective for pest control but they may also eat beneficial insects.

there has been a praying mantis on my window screen for the past three days hanging upside down. I close the shade at night and in the mornig its still there it slowly moves its head and nothing else. Could it be sick its alsmost winter is it going into hibernation?

what do they eat stupid heads

No, a praying mantis cannot spit at you. They are harmless. A stick mantis is just a type of mantis that looks like a stick. It acts as a camouflage to protect it from predators.

Is it true that a praying mantis can "spit" in your eye. I have always heard this. Also what is the difference between the praying mantis and the "stick mantis"? I've heard that these are two different insects. Is that so?

A bite may be painful, but otherwise it is harmless to people.

Cam anyone tell me if a praying mantis were to bite a human, if it would cause sickness?
