This sounds like the one I just described in the previous post. It is probably Stinkhorn. It won't hurt anything; it is just bothersome because of the smell.

This sounds like a fungus called Stinkhorn. Usually they grow after periods of moist, cool weather but they are seasonal will go away on their own.

Stinkhorn especially likes mulch piles and hard wood to grow on and they are actually beneficial to have because they aid in the breakdown of organic matter. It is a good idea to learn to live with the odor since it will go away soon and will help your garden.

If you absolutely can't live with them, and can't wait for them to go away on their own, try removing them when they still resemble eggs (before they break open)and put them in a zipper bag. This can be thrown in the trash. There is no chemical that will eliminate stinkhorn.

We have an orange mushroom growing in our garden. Help us to idenify it,please. It looks like a orange round tower, with side opening that have red coloring, it really has the odor of a port o potty. They have invaded my sunny garden in the coastal area of east mississippi. Do you have any information on anything like this?
