If you will look at the section that says "Soil" it tells you that garlic needs fertile, well drained soil that has been amended with peat moss, compost or sand.

I'm sorry, but you cannot post your email address on this site.

I just wanna ask what type of soil that garlic grows better and faster?????

Yes May, the thin skin that you remove before cooking is the outer wrapping. Don't crush it to split the skin like you do when cooking, however. Just split it carefully with a knife. Sorry I wasn't more clear in the article.

what do you mean by outer wrapping split? do you mean the thin skin of garlic which we remove before pressing or cooking? or cut split the garlic top, please explain..

Hi Lori, If there are no bulbs, perhaps what you have growing is chives. They smell very similar to garlic. I'm only guessing since I can't see the plants! If you do want to grow garlic, prepare the soil as suggested in our article and plant some fresh bulbs. Now is the perfect time to get them growing for next year's harvest.

When I moved to my farm, there was already a small area of what I believe is Elephant Garlic. It grows straight and has large flowers on top, but never grows a bulb on the bottom. They are pretty crowded. What do you think is the reason I don't get bulbs? Thanks.

Hi Sydney, Generally you should separate the cloves and plant them separately. This won't keep the garlic from growing, but it will crowd the plant, depending upon how many of them were sprouting or viable. You'll know if you planted them wrong- they simply won't grow any vegetation.
