Ornamental grass plumes are fairly easy to dry. Just cut them to the length you want, bundle them together and hang them upside down in a garage or other similar place. They should dry quickly depending on the humidity where you have them stored.

Hi Kathey, I wouldn't freeze the flowers- they will turn brown. You could try to refrigerate them in a box, but I don't think they will survive in there for two weeks. Perhaps there is a local florist who could get you some in a few weeks if you give them a heads-up?

This is probably the dumbest question ever, can fresh cut (lily of the valley) be frozen and used in say 2 weeks?

Silica gel is the medium that is used to dry flowers in the microwave. It looks like sand and therefore may cause confusion.

Silica sand can be used to dry flowers as well, but not in the microwave. Cover flowers with silica sand and allow to sit for several days to several weeks.

Can I use silica sand in the microwave to dry flowers? Thank you!

It is my understanding that silica sand is a great choice for delicate flowers that may be damaged by pellets. You can find it easily at most home centers and it is inexpensive. Just bury your flowers in it for up to four weeks.

Thank you for your question.
