Now (September) is probably the best time to do this. Coral Bells should be divided in the fall while the soil is still workable.

-- Contributed by: Dale DunsmoreHi Geo, You may have diagnosed the problem- the acid soil. Try checking the soil pH to see if it is closer to neutral, if not, adjust the soil. They also don't do very well in clay soils either.
-- Contributed by: Charlotte GerberI planted palace purple 3 years ago. It did great the first year but the past 2 years its gotten poorer to the point where its struggling to hang on. I dont expect to see it next year. I'm in Connecticut and there are in mostly shade and lightly acid soil so that might be a problem. If they come back I may move them
