I have planted about 20 mums in my yard in NC last month. Most of them have lost all of their flowers, but the purple ones I planted look dead, as opposed to the yellow ones that still look healthy. Is there a reason for this? they are all in the same flower bed, in alternating colors, so the soil, and watering is the same. Please help!
-- Contributed by: sabrinaHi Martha, This seems to happen with white mums, and it appears to be related to soil conditions, much like the hydrangeas.

-- Contributed by: MarthaHi Connie, Potted mums don't usually live very long, even if you keep them in the basement and pinch off the flowers. Unless you live in a warm climate where you can have them outdoors all year long, you're probably better off buying new ones next year.
-- Contributed by: Charlotte GerberCan I keep a nursery bought mum in the basement and plant it in the spring without it dying when planted in the spring?(we live in the N.E.)Should I pinch the old flowers off of it while in storage??? Any help would be appreciated.
-- Contributed by: ConniePinch back spent flowers. Be careful not to over-water it. You might try planting it outdoors. Often potted mums do not last very long. It may not bloom again until fall.
