Hi Ernie and Elaine, It sounds like you are both experiencing the same problem- the leaves are turning brown and curling under. This may be a result of broad mite- which needs to be treated with AVID or Kelthane- both are expensive and may not be worth the price of the plant. A Cooperative Extension agent can place the plant under a microscope to positively identify the problem before you spend money on the insect treatment.

-- Contributed by: Elaine BatenhorstMy wife and I have taken on the responsiblie of caring for afican violets of friends while they are on vaction. The bottom ring of leaves have developed a "mushy" look and hang down. What are we doing wrong? Thanks for your help
They may be getting too much water. They also prefer a temperature of 70 to 75 degrees with about 60 percent humidity. They also need eight to twelve hours of light a day with total darkness at night. Follow the tips in the article and you should have success.
