St Bruno's Lily

St Brunos Lily (Anthericum) - Bulbous plants of the Lily family, containing a few species hardy in this country. These are the European kinds, among the most beautiful of hardy flowers. A. Hookeri (Syn. Chrysobactron) is a distinct New Zealand plant, 15 to 20 inches high, with bright yellow flowers, in long spikes in early summer. It grows best in moist, deep soils. A. Liliago (St Bernards Lily) is about 2 feet high, with white flowers in early summer. A. ramosum has flower-stems about 2 feet high, much branched, and small white flowers. A. Liliastrum (St Brunos Lily) is a graceful alpine meadow plant in deep, free, sandy soil, in early summer throwing up spikes of snowy-white Lily-like blossoms. Division of the roots in autumn, or it may be raised from seed. The major variety of the St Brunos Lily has much larger flowers. It grows 3 feet high in good soil, and is a fine border plant. Replant when dormant. Increased by division and seeds.
