Mosquito Fogger
From LoveToKnow Garden
If the one thing you dread about gardening season is the feeling of being eaten alive by creepy-crawlies, you might be considering a mosquito fogger. Before you make your decision, take a look at Mosquito 86.
The Mosquito 86 vs a Mosquito Fogger
Mosquito 86 is a perfect tool to keep your yard free of blood-sucking critters like mosquitoes, fleas, ticks and other common garden pests. In a nutshell, Mosquito 86 uses a modified leaf blower to create a mist of insecticide wherever you want it.
When used according to the directions, it is not only effective, but it's also safe. In areas such as south Florida, it is common to have a Mosquito Control office send out trucks to spray neighborhoods. This is important because mosquitoes can transmit disease and hot, southern locals seem to be over run with these nasty bugs.
Typically, Mosquito Control sprays a chemical called permethrin, which is similar to a chemical made by chrysanthemums. This chemical kills adult mosquitoes as well as other pests. Mosquito 86 uses this same chemical and allows you to mist your entire yard whenever you need to. In this way, you can have professional-quality insect control.
A mosquito fogger, on the other hand, tends to be limited to a small area. Often purchased in cans, you have to spray the area you want to treat. If you want to treat your entire yard, you'd likely need to purchase a whole case of mosquito fogger!
Using Mosquito 86
Using Mosquito 86 instead of a mosquito fogger is simple. Just mix a small amount of the chemical, called Agent E, with water in the provided tank. Now put on the tank backpack-style and attach the tank to the blower. Start your blower and spray the mist over the area you want to treat.
This unit is easy to use and maintain. It is also two tools in one because you can remove the spray system and use it as a normal leaf blower. The Mosquito 86 is available as a gas or electric leaf blower.
When treating your yard for insects, it is best to wait until dusk when mosquitoes come out and many beneficial insets go into hiding for the night. Using a back and forth, sweeping motion you can mist a typical yard in about 15 minutes.
Things to Keep in Mind
If you decide to use Mosquito 86 instead of a mosquito fogger, you'll need to keep a few things in mind.
- When using Mosquito 86, it can get heavy. If you have a large yard, plan to take a break and rest your arm.
- If it rains, you will need to re-apply Agent E when the yard dries.
- Complete units are available from Mosquito 86 in gas or electric leaf blowers. You can also purchase adapters for your current leaf blower if you already own one.
- While Agent E is safe around children and pets when used correctly, it is still a good idea for them to stay indoors or away from the area you are treating.
